day 2: Marrakech to Fes (the long road north)
an early morning departure is necessary for the long transfer north to fes (approximately 7–8 hours of driving). the journey is scenic, involving long stretches of highway and passing through portions of the middle atlas mountains, offering a chance to see the changing moroccan landscape. stops for rest and lunch are made along the way. you will arrive in fes in the late afternoon or early evening. dinner and overnight stay will be in a traditional riad located in the fes medina.
day 3: Meknes, volubilis, and fes heritage
this day is dedicated to imperial history. in the morning, you will take an excursion to the imperial city of meknes (approx. 1-hour drive). you will explore the city’s highlights, including the colossal bab mansour gate, the royal stables, and the vast heri es-souani granary. following this, you will visit the spectacular ancient roman ruins of volubilis (a unesco world heritage site). in the afternoon, you will return to fes for a guided exploration of the fes medina, including the intricate bou inania madrasa and a visit to the city’s historic tanneries. dinner and overnight stay are in fes.
day 4: Fes to Marrakech / departure
after a final breakfast in fes, you begin the return transfer back south to marrakech (a long drive of approximately 7–8 hours). this route completes the imperial loop and provides a final opportunity to observe the diverse moroccan scenery. stops for lunch and rest are scheduled along the way. you will arrive in marrakech in the late afternoon or early evening for drop-off at your hotel or transfer to marrakech menara airport (rak) for your departure.
